Debra Knox is a singer /songwriter/ director/ artist and music mentor. NARAS, the National Academy of Arts and Science, has compared her sound to a cross between Annie Lenox and Alice in Chains. She has been a featured San Francisco artist at the Hard Rock Cafe, The Cannery, and the Polk Street Festival. Musician Magazine singled out her song "You Don't Care" on a compilation disc entitled "Rising Stars of San Francisco," as the one song and writer to pay attention to.
The Fun Addicts, an earlier band of Debra's won the Northern California's Battle of the Bands for the rock n' roll station KSAN, and this band was a headliner for many Bay Area clubs.
She has sung with The Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra at The Great American Music Hall, and was part of the popular R n' B review The Straight Jackets. Having recently performed in Baja Mexico for New Years Eve, Debra has played in hundreds of clubs and festivals throughout the West Coast.






As the singer/songwriter, front person, Debra has toured with her band, and as a solo acoustic performer opening for Richard Marx, The Bangles, The Temptations, The Go Go's, Eddie Money, Ronnie Montrose, Herbie Hancock, and Dan Folgelberg. Her music and her voice have a brilliance and intensity that reaches the hearts of her audience.
In the recording studio Debra has worked on her own material, and as a background vocalist with engineers and producers who have worked with Paul McCartney, Sugar Ray, The Bangles, Blue Oyster Cult, Huey Lewis and the News, Jefferson Starship, The Pointer Sisters, Black Sabbath, and The Steve Miller Band
.
Debra has performed her own music, and as a vocalist with other acts in short films on PBS television, MTV, KTVU television, KPFA radio, and on various cable stations.
Recently Ms. Knox has completed her first solo CD "The Color of True." The Color of True was engineered by Tom Size who has credits with Aerosmith, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth, Todd Rundgren, Jennifer Lopez, Ella Fitzgerald, and Joe Satriani. Her CD release concert was a great success for a standing ovation audience.


Debra has been following this up with appearances on KFOX radio, having her CD aired, being interviewed, and performing live for the Greg Kihn show. She is also part of a collective for women in music known as DivaBands that can be seen up and down the West Coast. Debra and the band generated a live web cast with IMUSICAST that was viewed world wide, and she was a featured solo performer for The Creative Musical Alternatives series for singer/songwriters.
In addition to this Debra is the resident musical director for a Bay Area children's and teen theater company. Her workshops and performances in festivals and schools are very successful and enriching. She may also be found teaching vocal, guitar and songwriting courses.

Debra's hope for the future is to continue to express herself through her music, to enrich other's lives, and to encourage others to do the same.
